Tips For Pulling Off an Elegant Spring Picnic Indoors

Uncooperative Spring weather can be the perfect excuse to experiment with alternatives to outdoor entertaining, like an elegant indoor picnic. Event designer Matthew David Hopkins insists it's the best way to meld the laid-back feel of outdoor entertaining with the glamour of indoor dining. Impressed by his stunning Indian-inspired picnic spread, we grilled him on the details for getting the look.

CS: Is it possible for most home entertainers to pull together an indoor picnic from their own closets and cabinets?

MH: Start with the place settings. Likely, you can find most of the elements in your own kitchen cabinets. Wine glasses, silverware, napkins, trays and votive candles (for romance) all add to the look. Choose a mix of special and everyday items.

CS: What's one unexpected item someone should use for an indoor picnic?

MH: In picking out the blanket, you might think – It’s going on the floor (or ground) so it shouldn’t be too nice. Switch up that thinking and go for the opposite. I have this great tapestry I found in India years ago. My Mom always said “why have things if you don’t use them?” and that stuck with me. The blanket is the biggest opportunity to make an impression here – so go for it!

Learn to Eye Contour in Two Simple Steps

You have heard all about the benefits of face contouring, but do you know the makeup artist's secret for chiseled eyes? Find out how to contour eyes with these tips from Make Up For Ever Academy's Lead Educator in New York, Floriane David.

1. Start with a highlighter in a shimmering shade. Using a medium-sized makeup brush, concentrate a dot of this bright shade on the center of your eye. (Imagine you're covering your iris through your lids). This spot will act as the point of emphasis in the eye contour. Next, gently blend outward to cover the entire lid. Make sure that your central focal point still holds most of the color.

2. Now it's time to add definition. Choose an eye shadow that's one shade darker than your skin tone. Take a tapered brush to place shadow close to the top lash line - but only on the outer two-thirds. Then sweep the brush in an upward arching motion from the corner of the eye into the crease. Finally, remove the excess from your brush and blend the shadow downward into the lid. This will blend the highlight and lowlights so that no harsh lines are visible.

And here's another tip from David: When you finish off your contoured eye look with eyeliner, avoid the inner corners. This will help keep your face looking bright, especially if your eyes are closer together.

Ed Norton, Wes Anderson, and Tilda Swinton Kick Off Cannes!

The Cannes Film Festival is officially underway! This evening's Moonrise Kingdom will be the first premiere of the week and the cast got together earlier this morning for their photocall. Wes Anderson was surrounded by his cast including Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Ed Norton. The movie actually centers around a love story between two young actors, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, who were also on hand for the event.

Much of this crew is like family already, since they've worked together on so many of Wes's movies and they certainly looked excited to show off their new project in this gorgeous setting. We're on the ground in Cannes, too, bringing you all the action.
